It has been 8 years since Hrant Dink has been assassinated in January 19. This year, protests of the assassination are coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide. In these lands; Armenians’ sorrow lasts for more than a century.
Although it has been 8 years and the shooters were known, the case got nowhere fast. There are 2 cases on trial for the assassination of Hrant Dink. In the first case; the shooters of Dink stand trial who were not regarded as “armed terrorist organization” and rewarded with serious sentence reductions. In the other case; the public officials stand trail who have contributions to the murder. Just like every anniversary of the assassination; there were some perfunctory custody decisions for public officials and some arrestments. However; going on trial of Erol Güngör, the former lieutenant governor of Istanbul, Celalettin Cerrah, the former provincial police chief of Istanbul and Ahmet İlhan Güler, the former chief of police intelligence bureau secretary is not even mentioned once. On contrary; the ones who have important contributions to the assassination are being rewarded by AKP (Justice and Development Party).
In Turkey, the country of unidentified murders, the bloody assaults of state to opponent intellectuals are not actually unusual, hence; it is not possible to expect justice from government. Yet, this never means that we won’t struggle for trial of the killers and raise public awareness on that issue.
As revolutionists, looking after Hrant Dink’s trail and calling the account for the persecution of the Armenian people are our debt of gratitude to Armenians who were banished from these lands 100 years ago. The loss of valiant sons of this community which pioneers of introducing socialism to these lands is also a loss of revolutionary struggle.
